How to get the best beauty looks from the Golden Globes

The 77th annual Golden Globes were full of unforgettable moments (such as the powerful speeches delivered by Michelle Williams and Kate McKinnon) and jaw-dropping red carpet fashion looks (like the many statement sleeves and disco-inspired outfits we saw). Of course, we can’t talk about the Golden Globes without mentioning the many beauty looks that took our breaths away.

From Joey King’s silver eyeshadow and Awkwafina’s killer eyeliner to Priyanka Chopra’s bold lip and Lucy Boynton’s art-deco inspired look, we’ve rounded up our favorite beauty looks along with quick tutorials on how to recreate them at home.

The Act star stunned on the red carpet, thanks in part to her Iris Van Herpin dress and her killer beauty look. Her makeup artist, Allan Avendano, said that the dress was so graphic and such a work of art that he opted for a wash of silver and taupe shades to give Joey’s eyes a pop of color without being too overpowering.

For her eye look, he started with the Urban Decay eyeshadow primer before applying makeup. Then, to create her icy silver eye, he used the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Cuff all over the lids and into her inner corners and buffed it out with a blending brush before it set. “On the lower lash-line I used the 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Mushroom for a slightly smoked out and defined look,” he said. “From the NAKED2, I used the shade Busted to deepen and shape the outer corners into her crease for more drama.”

For her Golden Globes beauty look, Chopra opted for a classic glam look created by makeup artist Mary Phillips. For the actress’s complexion, Phillips used the Pat McGrath Skin Fetish Foundation and Highlighter + Balm Duo to give Chopra a natural glow. To create her soft glam eye look, she used the eyeshadow shades Tabboo, Dark, and Statuesque (from three different products), brown eyeliner on the lash line, tightly lined liquid eyeliner on the lid, and the FetishEyes mascara to give her sky-high volume. We love a great eye makeup look, but in our humble opinion, it was Chopra’s lips that stole the show.

Pat McGrath used three MatteTrance lipsticks to create Priyanka’s stunning lip color: Vendetta was the base tone to add depth, and the shades Obsessed and Elson 2 were used to create a subtle ombré effect.

Makeup artist Alex Babsky said that the inspiration for Shailene’s dramatic makeup stemmed from the star’s sleek and graphic Balmain gown: “I wanted to do a makeup that was equally sleek and dramatic, but which was also not overly fussy, so I chose to make a single, strong statement with Shailene’s eyes and keep everything else pared-down, for a makeup look that was evocative of the glamour of the late ’70s.”

Babsky created the Big Little Lies star’s eye makeup with this black and grey eyeshadow palette, topped off with the Lancôme Hypnôse Full Body Drama Mascara and the Lancôme Le Crayon Khôl Eyeliner.

Awkwafina’s makeup artist, Kirin Bhatty, was inspired by iconic Hollywood glamour: “For a modernized take, we complemented her red lip and winged eyeliner with understated, glowing skin,” she said. “The result was simple, yet striking and strong.”

“To play up the color of her sequin yellow dress, I wanted to do some strong graphic lips in a matte orange tone,” said makeup artist Nick Barose. “The bold, matte orange Armani lip is a fun alternative to the classic red. Orange makes the look feel more quirky and it also compliments Gugu’s golden complexion. I kept the rest of the face understated but also played up the brows to make them a bit stronger, more defined, with flirty lashes.”

This cult-favorite foundation is loved by a wide array of A-listers and industry professionals for good reason—it leaves skin looking like the best, dewiest version of itself, covering imperfections without ever looking heavy.

Of course we couldn’t create a “best of beauty” article without including Lucy Boynton. The Politician star always shines on the red carpet with her daring makeup looks, and she never fails to amaze. This year, her makeup artist Jo Baker was inspired by the glamour of the 30s and decided to create an eye look with feminine lines and sparkles. As a base, she used a metallic taupe eyeshadow, then added silver foil and glitter to create this disco-inspired look.
