Best April Fools' Day 2018 Pranks From Brands

Facetune for cats, chocolate hamburgers, and more.

It's April Fools' Day yet again, meaning that it's the perfect day to text your BFF a bold-faced lie, swap out your roommate's Oreos filling with toothpaste, or tape a "push" sign to a door that absolutely should be pulled. Of course, April Fools' Day isn't just limited to our everyday lives anymore, as plenty of brands have decided to get in on the pranks.

With all the fakeouts circulating online, it was certainly a risky day to log onto social media, lest you find yourself believing a questionable ad about chocolate mayonnaise or something. But if you're worried about being duped, never fear — we've got you covered. Ahead, check out some of the April Fools' Day pranks that some of the biggest names have pulled this year, and be sure not to fall for them — or any other pranks that may come your way this weekend.

Google Maps

For April Fools' Day, Google decided to hide "Where's Waldo?" in their maps, creating a game out of what might ordinarily be a boring search. This one wasn't such a surprise, given that Google advertised their prank days in advance. Nevertheless, it was a fun one, and we're kind of wishing they'd keep it all year round.

Facetune

The makers of the "flawless" selfie app announced they were launching a new platform called "Catune," AKA Facetune for your cat. But when you go to the website advertised in their tweet, you'll find out that you've been totally owned. "Your cat is already flawless," they write, and TBH, they're correct.

Lego

If you ever played with Legos as a kid, you'll remember that the one thing worse than stepping on one barefoot was when your parents told you to put them away at the end of the day. Ugh, the struggle. Lego decided to toy with our dreams by announcing a "Lego vacuum" that sorted all the bricks by color and size, and eliminated dust. If only!

Yelp

The app for searching company reviews had a good laugh at our expense today, by making it look like users' phone screens were cracked when they opened the app. Omg, thanks for the mini heart attack, Yelp, I just wanted to find the best tacos in my neighborhood.

Netflix

The streaming service revealed that it had "acquired" actor Seth Rogan, sharing in an ad that the comedian had "transfer[ed] full ownership of his personal autonomy to Netflix, Inc." In a video posted on the company's Twitter page, you can see Seth reading through his lengthy and, uh, scary contract.

Burger King

The fast food giant teased a brand-new "Chocolate Whopper" on YouTube which...actually doesn't look half bad, if you're into chocolate-smothered hamburgers, that is. Sadly, we don't think this will be available in the drive-through anytime soon.

SodaStream

Do you love your SodaStream so much that you wish you could bathe in it? If soaking in carbonated water is a dream, you'll probably be pretty mad at this company for teasing you with a product that would do just that.

Rent the Runway

Rent the Runway, the online resource for rental fashion, faked out its users by promising a service that would allow them to rent matching outfits for their dogs. OK, but this actually is super-cute, can it be real? And speaking of pets....

Petco

The chain for animal lovers announced a brand-new service called Beautiful Bond Salon. Their promise? They'll help you create matching beauty looks with your furry best friend. Seems legit.

T-Mobile

The phone company started advertising Sidekicks — the world's first "smart-shoe-phone." They even took it as far as allowing customers to order the shoes...without the phone capabilities, of course. But hey, who knows what the future holds...maybe a smart-shoe-phone will exist one day after all.
