"If you live in an exceptionally humid climate, you may find yourself more prone to frizz because it causes the cuticle to swell. Your texture may just be more open naturally, too, or you could be stressing the cuticle with excessive styling and not enough protection."

When styling, Papelo recommends using a hydrating cream and oil, as these two make a great base for fighting frizz. "Applying them after you shampoo and before products with hold will prep the cuticle and seal it down more effectively," she says. Another pro tip: "Oil can be reapplied once hair is dry and even as a second day option of frizz or dryness is still coming through."

Look for products with argan, avocado, and coconut oils since those provide nourishing benefits, says Papaleo. Just stay away from any formulas that contain silicone since that "prevents moisture from exiting the hair and over time it can cause build up and weigh your hair down," she notes.

Products with formaldehyde are also a no-no. "There are some product combinations that produce formaldehyde when heat is applied like glyoxylic acid and methylene glycol," she further explains. "These can be harmful to breath in and are common in serums."
