Berry Lipstick Is the Most Popular Color for Brides on Pinterest

According to a recent trend report from Pinterest, brides-to-be are increasingly searching for bold, berry lipstick on Pinterest before their wedding days.

I don't know what you picture when someone says "wedding day makeup," but flip through any bridal magazine or scroll through images of bridal fashion week (which, yes, is a thing, and it's happening in New York City next week), and it's all softly contoured eyes, lots of lashes, flushed cheeks, and a lip color that's just a bit richer and glossier than your natural hue. Pretty predictable, huh? Well, Pinterest is here to flip that old-fashioned ideology on its head (it's about damn time, TBH), because according to a recent Wedding Report by the social media platform, brides-to-be are actually searching for brighter, bolder lip colors for the Big Day — and we're totally here for it.

In-between planning perhaps the biggest party of their lives — the color scheme! the floral arrangements! seating charts! — brides-to-be are flocking to Pinterest in search of their potential lip color for their future nuptials, and apparently, bright berry hues, reminiscent of the deep-toned raspberry wine shade Kendall Jenner donned during the La Perla Fall/Winter 2017 show, were up by a whopping 71 percent.

If you're like one of the many people frantically looking for bridal beauty inspiration, including the blackberry stain shade, there are a few rules to adhere to before dabbing on a dose of the deep shade. Celebrity makeup artist Molly R. Stern previously told Allure it's important to find a lipstick color that complements your skin tone. So, if you have fair skin, look for a dark sheer shade: "This will keep you from looking like a character out of a Tim Burton film," she said. (We love the new NARS x Charlotte Gainsbourg Lip Tint in Promise.)

Medium skin tones should gravitate toward richer, truer berries, like the Tarte Tarteist Quick Dry Matte Lip Paint, while darker skin tones should opt for shades that won't blend in with their skin, says Stern. (We love the Urban Decay Vice Liquid Lip in Rock Steady.) As a final tip — no matter if you're in the midst of wedding planning — just like the sweet fruit their named after, berry lipsticks can get messy, so we recommend first using a liner to frame the lips and then fill in with the lipstick.
