Find berries, vegetables, flowers at these U-pick farms in the Hudson Valley: See the list

If you're looking to plan a day outdoors, local farms are preparing to welcome the public again for the pick-your-own season. Get fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers and herbs, and support the mid-Hudson Valley's local farmers in the upcoming warmer months.

Take a look below at the farms and orchards in Dutchess, Ulster and Orange counties that are starting their U-pick seasons and are just a short drive away. Keep in mind some farms require reservations for their pick-your-own programs, and if you're looking for a specific item, call ahead. The weather can quickly change which fruits, vegetables or other crops the farms and orchards may have.

When narrowing down the places you want to try, visit their websites for other attractions and events at some of the farms and orchards, including stores with local products, food and drink, desserts, markets, tap rooms, cideries and other activities to spend the day with friends and family.

Dutchess County pick-your-own farms

Fishkill Farms, 9 Fishkill Farm Road, Hopewell Junction: Expect to pick strawberries and red currants in June. In July, you can pick raspberries, white and black currants, cherries and blueberries. In August, pick blackberries, peaches, nectarines and donut peaches. You can also pick herbs starting mid-June, flowers starting early July, and a variety of tomatoes starting late July. Check out their website, fishkillfarms.com/visit/pick-your-own/, as reservations are required for Fishkill Farms when the pick-your-own season resumes in June with strawberries.

Greig Farm, 227 Pitcher Lane, Red Hook: Pick asparagus starting in May, strawberries and snap peas in June, blueberries in July, along with blackberries and raspberries in August. See their website, greigfarm.com/pick-your-own, for more information on this year's pick-your-own season.

Mead Orchards, 15 Scism Road, Tivoli: Pick strawberries, cherries and blueberries in June, along with peaches later in the summer. For more information on Mead Orchards 2024 season, see their website at meadorchards.com.

Rose Hill Farm, 14 Rose Hill Farm, Red Hook: Pick your own cherries in June, blueberries from early July to mid-August, apricots in mid-July, plums from mid-to-late July and peaches starting early August. They offer a wide variety of each fruit, and see their website, pickrosehillfarm.com, for more information as the 2024 pick-your-own season approaches.

Ulster County pick-your-own farms

Dressel Farms, 271 State Route 208, New Paltz: In mid-June, strawberries will begin their pick-your-own season. Other summer fruits and vegetables will be available as well. Peaches and vegetables including tomatoes and sweet corn will be available in August. For updates on their pick-your-own season, check out their Facebook page, facebook.com/dresselfarms.

DuBois Farms, 209 Perkinsville Road, Highland: Pick-your-own season starts here in late May with strawberries through June. Pick summer squash, greens, nectarines, peaches and plums starting in July. Jenkins and Lueken Orchards, 69 Yankee Folley Road, New Paltz: Pick strawberries in early June, blueberries starting July 1, raspberries starting July 20 and blackberries starting Aug. 10. As the season draws closer, see their website, jlorchards.com/u-pick/berries/, for updates.

Kelder's Farm, 5755 US Route 209, Kerhonkson: In May, start the pick-your-own season here with asparagus and other spring vegetables. In June, pick strawberries and vegetables. Pick vegetables, flowers and blueberries in July. In August, pick vegetables, flowers, blackberries, raspberries and apples. Prospect Hill Orchards, 340 Milton Turnpike, Milton: Pick your own dark red and white sweet cherries and sour cherries from late June to the first week of July. Lawrence Farms, 39 Colandrea Road, Newburgh: In June, pick strawberries, peas, lettuce, spinach and other greens. In late June and the start of July, pick strawberries, sweet cherries, sour cherries, peas and other greens. In mid-to-late July, pick apricots, peaches, plums, currants, gooseberries and vegetables. In early August, pick peaches, plums and vegetables. In mid-to-late August, pick peaches, apples, plums, pears, raspberries, grapes, sweet corn, tomatoes, peppers, greens and beans.
