Bernie Sanders Says He’s Totally Not a “Far-Left” Presidential Candidate Like Some Say

• Senator Bernie Sanders knows some people think he’s a “far-left” candidate.

If I had a dollar for every time Bernie Sanders was called “too radical” or “too far left” of a presidential candidate, I’d be a rich woman swimming in a pool full of dollar bill$, free of my debts. But while people are throwing out the “radical” label, some voters who supported our current president, Donald Trump, in the last election are feeling dissatisfied with how the country is being run right now.

So when it comes to those far-left accusations, Bernie simply is not having it. In an interview with Cosmopolitan’s editor-in-chief, Jessica Pels, Bernie rejected those claims and defended himself against the far-left label.

“You know, the media will sometimes describe me as ‘far left,’ but honestly, I don’t accept that moniker. Because if you look at the issues that I talk about, they are supported by the American people,” Bernie told Cosmopolitan. “I have led the effort in this country with some success to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour. Is that a radical idea? I don’t think so. Overwhelming support for that among the American people.”

Bernie also detailed how his effort to provide tuition-free education to public colleges was considered a radical idea a few years ago but isn’t such a crazy thing to think about now when analyzing the sheer amount of student debt in America.

“I’ve helped lead the effort to try to make public colleges and universities tuition-free. There are now 12 states that are moving in that direction, New Mexico did last week,” Bernie added. “Anyone in New Mexico, in a couple years, can go to a public university or college tuition-free. Four years ago, a radical idea. Not so radical right now. I believe that as a nation, if we could bail out the crooks on Wall Street and give huge tax breaks to billionaires, we should cancel all student debt in America. Is that a radical idea? That’s not what the American people believe.”

Some other radical ideas Bernie has that the American people low-key want? Free health care, climate change reform, and a person that fights to handle these issues. “I reject the idea that my ideas are something that the American people won’t support, quite the contrary,” he said. “There are many people who voted for Trump who are disgusted with the political establishment and feel that the democratic leadership has not been aggressive enough.”
