From Cosmopolitan

Today, Bernie Sanders is the oldest candidate running for the Democratic party’s nomination, but back on September 8, 1941, this Brooklyn-born politician was just a smol newborn. Now, fans of astrology know that the alignment of the planets at your time of birth determines your unique personality and that your exact birth time is the key to your Rising sign because the possibilities for a Rising sign shift every four minutes. (There are 1,440 minutes in a day, so there are 360 unique options for a Rising sign in a 24-hour period. Oh, and there are also 360 degrees in the astrological chart wheel. Hi, did I mention astrologers are also mathematicians?)

Anyway, back to Bernie. We’ll dive into the possibilities of his Rising sign later, but for starters, here’s what the planets can say with certainty about this resilient politician.

VIRGO SUN

The Sun sign in your birth chart tells you everything you need to know about how you radiate yourself to the world. Virgo—the second earth sign of the zodiac—is known for its intellect, pragmatism, and incredible ability to create systems. Virgos have an extraordinary eye for detail, with which they are able to identify cracks in infrastructure and generate real, lasting improvements. But most important, Virgo is a sign of service. Astrology proves that Bernie just wants to make the world a better place.

Mercury, the planet of communication, governs Gemini and Virgo, and each sign symbolizes a different side of expression: Gemini is associated with “output,” or extroversion, while Virgo is all about “input,” or introversion. President Donald Trump is a quintessential Gemini (just look at his Twitter feed), so if these two face off in the 2020 presidential election, it will truly be a battle of words.

But First, Bernie’s Most Virgo Sun Quote:

“I believe that as a nation, if we could bail out the crooks on Wall Street and give huge tax breaks to billionaires, we should cancel all student debt in America. Is that a radical idea?...It ain’t a radical idea, it’s what the American people want. Dealing with climate change? Saving the planet—oh my god, that’s far left! It’s not far left, it’s what the American people want.”

ARIES MOON

While the Sun represents your outer world, the Moon symbolizes your emotional inner world. Bernie’s emotions are fueled by fiery Aries, which means that he is bold, fearless, and extremely spirited. Moreover, his brazen Aries Moon is conjunct with Mars in Aries, meaning these two planets are at the same position in his natal chart. Aries is governed by Mars, so there’s no doubt that Bernie lives to fight and fights to win! He lives for competition. This cutthroat attitude could very well help Bernie seek victory in the Democratic Primaries and 2020 presidential election.

Bernie’s Most Aries Moon Quote:

On why, as an older white man, he is the best person to represent our country rather than a more diverse candidate: “I believed then and I believe now that I am the strongest candidate to defeat Donald Trump, and I think that it is absolutely imperative that we do that.”

POSSIBLY, MAYBE SCORPIO RISING?

A few weeks ago when Bernie visited Cosmo HQ, Sam Feher, the assistant to Cosmopolitan’s editor-in-chief, Jessica Pels, guessed his Rising sign as Scorpio based on the birth information about him that *is* available. As an astrologer, I think this could be true: Bernie exudes the relentless intensity of a Scorpio.

But as I noted before, we can’t confirm that Scorpio is Bernie’s Rising sign until his birth time is revealed. Bernie, if you’re reading this, slide into my DMs with that information when you have a sec and I’ll spill that presidential tea.

And now, an astrological prediction for Bernie:

Bernie will be experiencing his Mars Return during the 2020 Presidential Election. In case you have no idea what that means, Mars, the planet of action, returns to the exact position it was at the time of birth every two years. Mars will be retrograde in November 2020, which can be a dicey situation, especially for those who are going through a Mars Return. But this November 2020 Mars Retrograde may actually work in Bernie’s favor: Mars was also retrograde when he was born, so he’s no stranger to the planet of war stumbling backward. So if things get weird around the election, Bernie will be ready to step into high gear and fight for what he believes in.
