Berks church opens its pickleball courts to community

May 20—West Lawn United Methodist Church is opening its pickleball courts to the community.

The church is inviting the general public to take advantage of its two indoor pickleball courts in the Raffauf Community Center on Woodside Avenue in Spring Township on Monday and Thursday afternoons. The courts will be open from 1 to 3 p.m.

Pickleball, often described as a combination of tennis and badminton, is played on a smaller court with a Wiffle ball and oversized pingpong paddles. The church is making paddles and balls available for anyone wishing to play.

Kelly Rismiller, director of leadership development and volunteer recruitment, said the church decided to open its facility to the community to provide people with an opportunity to congregate.

"Pickleball is huge in Berks County, and we have an ideal space for indoor play," Rismiller said. "Opening our facility to the community, and allowing anyone to come and play for free, meet new people and participate in active community fellowship is the type of thing West Lawn United Methodist loves to facilitate and offer."
