You've likely tried a hangover cure, only to learn that you drank that jar of pickle juice for nothing (no? just me?). And while plenty of methods you read about online turn out to be complete myths, Benny Blanco swears by a technique that he says makes it "impossible" to be hungover the next day.

During a recent episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the producer-turned-cookbook author-turned-Selena Gomez's boyfriend filled Fallon in on his hangover-prevention trick—olive oil—and then the pair tried it together.

"My friend Nino taught me this," Blanco said. "These old guys from Italy came in. They said, ‘Before you drink, you take a shot of this, you can’t get hungover. Impossible."

Benny and Jimmy proceeded to down shots of olive oil before chasing it with a glass of red wine. And while they did not report back on whether it worked, we did some research of our own.

And there just might be some evidence supporting the trick. Seriously.

Employees Only LA co-founder Dushan Zaric spoke with GQ on the subject, saying that lemon juice and cold pressed virgin olive oil are the ultimate hangover-fighting combo.

"It is a good idea to drink one ounce of lemon juice and one ounce of cold pressed virgin olive oil mixed with cinnamon before you go out to drink," he told the outlet. "Lemon juice is alkalizing and it will balance the acidity that alcohol brings into your system. It will help your liver to cleanse better and faster. Olive oil will line your stomach and let the alcohol absorb into your system at a slower rate."

However, according to the Association of UK Dietitians, the technique, which is popular in Mediterranean countries, doesn't do much and there is actually "no such thing as lining your stomach."

"Around 20% of alcohol is absorbed in the stomach and the rest is absorbed in the intestine. So any food containing fat, protein or, to some extent, carbohydrate that delays your stomach emptying could have a very modest effect on slowing down the absorption of alcohol," they wrote

While there might not be enough science to actually back up this theory, TikTok users were quick to come to Blanco's defense.

"I confirm that!! It is known in Greece too, a tablespoon of olive oil before you go out and no hangover," one person wrote in the comment section.

"Yea I’ve heard this lines your stomach," a third person wrote.

"Yep, that’s old school," another added.

Maybe Benny's onto something?
