Benjamin Moore's 2024 Color of the Year Captures the Brilliant Night Sky

Benjamin Moore’s 2024 Color of the Year is here, and it's a deep, blue-violet color—literally designed to be out of this world. Modeled after a rich, twilight sky, Blue Nova (825) is a classic yet adventurous shade.

“Blue Nova 825 is an alluring mid-tone that balances depth and intrigue with classic appeal and reassurance,” color marketing and development director Andrea Magno said in a press release. “The Color Trends 2024 palette tells a story of duality—juxtaposing light against dark, warm and cool, showcasing complementary and contrasting color pairings."

Blue Nova is meant to be versatile, created to strike a balance between traditional and modern design. You can use it as an eye catching accent wall as well as a color-drenched space, and it fits with a range of design styles—especially a moody, whimsigoth aesthetic. If you're planning to use it in your bedroom, couple it with the moon motif trend (painting your ceiling and adding glow-in-the-dark stars would be especially fitting). It also makes for a striking entry way or living room option, but make sure you have enough natural light to keep the room from feeling too enclosed. Warm accents also help to balance everything out.

As the name implies, the shade draws its inspiration from the forming of a new star, a bright and intense experience that invites exploration and adventure—all captured in one paint color.

But Blue Nova is space-inspired in more ways than one: Benjamin Moore worked with partners Blue Origin and the nonprofit organization Club for the Future to create a color that highlights careers in the space industry. Benjamin Moore hopes to use their 2024 Color of the Year to inspire new designs in all types of these spaces, from community hospitals to STEM-related events.

The mid-tone blue is at the forefront of the Benjamin Moore Color Trends 2024 palette, which features ten different paint colors that aim to be as flexible and intriguing as Blue Nova. The full palette includes the following:

From the dusty pink Teacup Rose to muted green-gray shades that fit right into the neutral green trend, this palette features a rich mix of both bold and neutral shades to work with.
