Ben Soleimani, the Los Angeles–based designer known for his luxurious contemporary rugs, today announced the opening of a New York City flagship store for his burgeoning brand of textiles, furniture, and home decor. The 12,000-square-foot, three-story space at the corner of 57th Street and Madison Avenue in Manhattan will open later this month and will showcase everything from Art Deco–inspired velvet sectionals to his Private Reserve collection of museum-caliber antique rugs.

Soleimani launched his brand in February 2019, followed by his first store, in Los Angeles, later that year. He had originally planned to open more brick-and-mortar spaces in major cities but his retail moves were slowed during the pandemic. “Instead,” he said in an interview, “we grew like crazy the last two years. We’re now a one-stop shop for any designer.”

Now his collection has expanded to encompass more than 10,000 pieces, with fans ranging from interior designers Victoria Hagan and David Kleinberg to celebrity clients like Jay-Z, who put Soleimani’s rugs in his office. “We have enough inventory for 20 stores,” he says. And he may soon have those stores: By the end of 2022, he plans to open four additional locations in urban design hubs, starting with Chicago and Miami. “You need both a digital and retail presence if you are in the ‘quality’ business,” he believes. “You need to be able to show the product, which is why it’s important we have a presence in those cities.”

New York was a natural fit for his style, he says: “I am all about clean lines, sophistication, and ‘less is more,’ and the New York clientele likes that.” What’s more, he adds, 95 percent of his offerings are in stock and will arrive to the consumer within a couple of weeks.

The Manhattan store at 601 Madison Avenue will have a soft opening in mid-December, he says, and will open officially later this month.
