Ben McKenzie Explains Why He Married Wife Morena Baccarin on Her Birthday
So that’s why! It was a big surprise when Gotham couple Ben McKenzie and Morena Baccarin married in a top-secret Brooklyn wedding this summer, and it turns out that the couple managed to keep their nuptials hush-hush—well in advance.
McKenzie, 39, stopped by Harry Connick Jr.’s show this week, and proudly boasted to the show host: “I just got hitched.” The actor and the Deadpool beauty, who fell in love on the set of Gotham, married on June 2—the bride’s birthday—at the famed Brooklyn Botanical Gardens in New York. Guests included McKenzie’s former The O.C. co-star Logan Marshall-Green.
“We wanted to get married at the Botanic Gardens in Brooklyn,” McKenzie explained. “And when we wanted to book it—which was over a year in advance in our defense—the only date available was my wife’s birthday.”
Baccarin turned 38 the day she married McKenzie. “It is sweet… or so I thought,” the actor continued. “I think she just wants me to be clear that she is going to get a birthday present and there is going to be an anniversary gift. And it’s a whole week. She’s Brazilian and birthdays are very special. The good news is if I do it right, it’s going to be a great year. Every year, if I hit June 2nd we are good, but if I forget anniversary and birthday, it’s going to be a bad year.”
McKenzie and Baccarin started dating in 2015 and got engaged last November. They welcomed their first child together, daughter Frances, in March.
