Ben & Jerry's New Snackable Cookie Dough Is Here—But Is It Worth The Hype?

Ben & Jerry's is famous for its cookie dough ice cream, so much so that the creamery released an entire line of cookie dough core pints earlier this year. Now B&J's is giving people even more of what they want with its new snackable cookie dough chunks.

The bites, which you can find in the freezer section and are meant to be kept frozen, are safe to eat raw because the dough contains pasteurized eggs and heat-treated flour, per a press release. While we're always on board with another reason to eat cookie dough straight from the package, people online had mixed feelings about them:

A majority of sentiments erred on the side of excitement, though, so we tried them to see if they're really worth the hype. Reviews were mixed, to say the least.

"The flavor and texture is spot-on to sneaking chunks of Tollhouse right outta the tube, but since each one's the size of a peanut M&M, I could eat them like M&M's-until I simultaneously give myself a stomachache and fleeting sugar high-then-crash. But...WORTH IT," said an editor. "I'd eat this entire thing, I have to walk away," said another.

But not all taste testers were impressed: "I'd rather just eat fresh cookie dough," one Delish staffer said. "If I saw this next to ice cream in the frozen section, I'd just buy the ice cream."

Delish's Deputy Editor, Sarah Weinberg, uncovered the real hack: "The trick is apparently to leave it sitting out of the freezer for about an hour, then eat it. It's super soft and fluffy, like actual just-mixed cookie dough."

If you asked me, I'd buy the chunks and sprinkle them on top of every single pint of ice cream in my freezer-Ben & Jerry's or not. Give them a try and decide for yourself.
