Ben Affleck Says He's 'Lost Interest' in Playing Batman
Justice League's Ben Affleck has rubbished the idea of ever returning to the role of Batman.
The Oscar-winner portrayed a grizzled version of the Dark Knight across three Worlds of DC movies, including a blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameo in David Ayer's Suicide Squad.
In a new interview with DeWayne Hamby, Affleck was asked if the door was closed forever as Robert Pattinson recently replaced him for director Matt Reeves.
"Yeah, that's not the kind of um... you know, I had an opportunity to write and direct and kind of start a standalone Batman," the actor responded.
"You know it just happened at a point in my life when I kinda lost interest in those stories, you know?"
However, the star did joke that he could play a "very old Batman with a walker" in 20 years' time.
Meanwhile, Affleck has also described Pattinson as a "great actor" ahead of his onscreen debut as Gotham's iconic hero.
In Reeves' 2021 reboot The Batman, Pattinson will face off against a rogues gallery of DC villains including Riddler, Penguin and Carmine Falcone.
Zoe Kravitz is playing Catwoman opposite Pattinson's Batman, and previously labeled her co-star "perfect" for the role.
"I'm excited to have him as my partner in crime and to be there to support each other, because it's intense. It's going to be a long shoot and there's a lot of pressure, and I know he has my back and I have his," she said.
The Batman has a release date of June 25, 2021.
