A sequel to Gavin O'Connor's 2016 film The Accountant is in the works at Amazon MGM Studios, and Deadline has confirmed that Ben Affleck, Jon Bernthal, J. K. Simmons and Cynthia Addai-Robinson will return.

O'Connor will also return as director alongside original screenwriter Bill Dubuque.

2016's The Accountant followed a math savant who uncooks the books for a new client while the Treasury Department closes in on his activities, and the body count starts to rise.

Deadline has shared the synopsis of the sequel, which reveals:

"When Medina's former boss is killed by unknown assassins, she's forced to contact Christian to solve the murder. With the help of his estranged but highly lethal brother Brax, Chris applies his brilliant mind and less-than-legal methods to piece together the unsolved puzzle. As they get closer to the truth, the trio draw the attention of some of the most ruthless killers alive — all intent on putting a stop to their search."

Ben Affleck will also produce the film alongside Matt Damon under their Artists Equity banner, with Lynette Howell Taylor and Mark Williams producing for 51 Entertainment.

Executive producers include Dani Bernfeld, Kevin Halloran, Michael Joe, and Alison Winter for Artists Equity.

Also exec producing are Scott Lastaiti and Jamie Patricof.
