Ben Affleck Name-Drops Players in 'Celebrity Wordle Group'

The actor bragged about his invite to a 'cool little red velvet rope' Wordle group.

Ben Affleck might be a little busy lately promoting his two upcoming movies, Air and Hypnotic, but he always finds time to play word games as part of a "cool little red velvet rope celebrity Wordle group."

During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Affleck, 50, spoke about his love of the popular word game and its many variations, also revealing a few of the major stars who are a part of the Wordle group.

Affleck got on the topic when he started talking about his experience with COVID-19, saying, "I had the no-energy COVID, where it was too much work to pick up the phone to play Octordle."

After the interviewer asked what Octordle was, Affleck explained, "It’s just Wordle with more words. Don’t be impressed; it’s not harder."

The actor said, "I was invited to join a cool little red velvet rope celebrity Wordle group. Matt [Damon]’s one of them. Jason Bateman and Bradley [Cooper], and…"

He paused before joking, "Actually, the first rule of Wordle is don’t talk about Wordle. Unless you get it in three guesses."

But Affleck also made it clear that he usually isn't the one winning when it comes to this Wordle group: "I used to do the crossword compulsively in the mornings and think I was good at word games. And let’s face it, going up against actors; it’s not a high bar."

"I expected to do fairly well, so I was seriously humbled. You have to do the Wordle, the Quordle, and the Octordle and add up your score, and then whoever gets the lowest score wins for the day," he went on.

It sounds like a lot of fun, but Affleck added, "It’s fiercely competitive, and there’s a lot of mockery and derision. So I’m in training."

After the release of his two new films, Affleck will be in both The Flash and Aquaman and the Last Kingdom in what might be his last two appearances as Bruce Wayne in the DCEU.

The actor, who is also a director, producer, and writer, recently revealed that he would never direct something in the new DCEU under James Gunn, but not because he doesn't like Gunn or thinks he needs to do a better job.

He said he isn't interested in directing "in the way they’re doing that." But that just means that Affleck will be working on more exciting projects elsewhere in the years to come.
