Last year, 20th Century Studios revealed that it had won the rights to a movie about a scam run by a former police officer who rigged the McDonald’s Monopoly game and collected more than $24 million in the process. Ben Affleck was attached to direct it, and Matt Damon was supposed to star in it.

We haven’t heard much about that movie since then, but if you're a fan of the HBO docuseries McMillion$, which covers the scam, you might be wondering about this movie, too. Ben just revealed that the movie is still on, despite big changes at the studio. In a new interview with Collider, Ben said that the move is still in development.

“We’ve gotten a new draft. That’s really good,” he said. “Hollywood’s a weird place, because the person who was running the studio when they bought that script just left that job. And the studio that was going to make it got bought by another studio.”

Ben said he had to kind of wait and see how things panned out for his movie. “There’s these moments where things sort themselves out, and you sort of see, ‘Is this still a priority, or are they really interested in different kinds of movies?’ And I’m not sure whether or not, McScam, what kind of priority it is. We really like it. We’re still developing the script,” he said.

In case you’re not familiar with the backstory, McScam is based off of a 2018 Daily Beast article called How An Ex-Cop Rigged McDonald’s Monopoly Game And Stole Millions. The article tells the true story of how former police officer Jerome Jacobson rigged the McDonald’s Monopoly Game and allegedly stole over $24 million. He reportedly shared the stolen money with co-conspirators who offered him bribes. Jacobson, who was head of security for a Los Angeles company that was responsible for making the game pieces, eventually was busted by the FBI in a sting.

For now, you'll just have to keep watching McMillion$ and keep your fingers crossed for the movie!
