Ben Affleck had the best response to jokes about his weight, 'garish' back tattoo

Never mind that Sad Affleck meme or the influx of paparazzi photos displaying closed eyes, a world-weary expression, and a cigarette clenched between his fingers. It turns out that Ben Affleck has a pretty good sense of humor.

The actor and director was targeted by the New Yorker in a new piece called “The Great Sadness of Ben Affleck,” which made light of his “Homer Simpsonesque” frame and the gargantuan (and very vibrant, we might add) tattoo of a phoenix on his back.

The article, which stemmed from the Oscar winner’s recent shirtless appearance on the beach, was met with some criticism by fans who thought Affleck was being body-shamed. Indeed, writer Naomi Fry referenced his “gut” and made a comparison to the notably burly French actor Gérard Depardieu.

But Affleck is quite happy to defend himself, as evidenced by the tweet he just sent to the esteemed magazine.

Touché. Consider this an excellent example of shutting down critics with a little self-own.

The New Yorker has yet to respond.
