Bemidji Parks and Recreation launches 'Slow the Mow' campaign

Apr. 28—BEMIDJI — The city of

Bemidji Parks and Recreation Department

is launching a "Slow the Mow" campaign to encourage residents to reduce the amount they mow this spring to help pollinator species.

May through June is when pollinator species return from migration or come out of hibernation and need locally sourced nectar. Even small changes to minimize impacts on bees can make a big difference, a release said.

By signing up, participants agree to reduce the amount they mow their lawns during May and early June. The city's goal is to provide early-season forage for emerging native pollinators by reducing lawn mowing frequency during a time when foraging resources are limited.
