Costco food court fans, rejoice! A beloved item is back on the menu—well actually, it's still technically off the menu, but available again for the first time since 2020. And Costco shoppers are ecstatic, sharing their excitement all over social media, posting everywhere from Instagram to Reddit. So what's all the fuss about? It's none other than Costco's optional add-on for its famous (and infamous) food court hot dog: the diced white onions.

For the uninitiated, it may not seem like a big deal. Onions? For a hot dog? That's it? But real devotees know that Costco shoppers were devastated when the onion dispensers disappeared from food courts during the COVID-19 pandemic. The condiment was so missed that it even became a punchline to many a viral tweet.

Needless, to say, people are seriously excited to see the onions appearing back in food courts across the country. Here's what you need to know.

Onions Are Back in Costco Food Courts

In a May 1 statement, Costco reps confirmed the diced onions were indeed coming back to food courts nationally. And, according to some eagle-eyed shoppers, they're already rolling out in some Costco locations. However, they may be harder to spot, at least for now.

For now, the onions are most likely only available by request, stored in fridges behind the food court counter in pre-measured cups. Some Reddit detectives found evidence that those famed onion dispensers may be returning to Costco locations soon, too. Summer is the season of hot dogs after all, and we'd be more than happy to see these dispensers in stores by Memorial Day.

There's no word on whether other revered, retired items that were discontinued during the pandemic—like the combo pizza—will come back, too. Until then, you can top your $1.50 hot dogs and regular pizza with all the diced onions your heart desires and write to Costco with your request—it would appear they're taking the social media responses into consideration. We know we'll be requesting all the next-level international Costco food court items we want stateside ASAP.
