Bella Hadid Is Still Embarrassed About This Major Look

Bella Hadid knows how to work a runway and a red carpet and she's also a master of street style. So it’s only right that the supermodel sat down with Vogue to spill all the details behind some of her famous looks.

In her "Life in Looks" video for Vogue, Bella opened up about how she was feeling wearing 15 of her most buzz-worthy looks to date and shared some takes that you may not expect. Case in point: the rouge hip-split dress by Alexandre Vauthier she wore to the 2016 Cannes Film Festival.

Bella indisputably shut down the red carpet when she wore the stunning piece but while the internet swooned over her Bond girl-esque femme fatale look, she told Vogue that she didn’t feel as confident as she looked. “I was nervous in this dress. I looked very sexual and all these things but was still nervous about cameras, nervous about having a lot of makeup on, and nervous about this slit,” Bella admits in the video.

The supermodel also revealed that, although her red number is one of her most iconic looks, she still gets embarrassed by it, saying it feels much more like an alter ego than the real her. “I kind of get embarrassed of this moment still – even though the dress is gorgeous – it just, again, doesn’t feel so much like me,” she confesses. “I think that this was the start of the Bella persona that everyone sees of me. That’s my alter ego, that’s Belinda. I’m just so the opposite of her.”

Fast forward to Cannes 2021 and Bella felt much more confident. “I wanted to know that the dress I was gonna wear was an embodiment of who I am now as a woman,” she says. Her custom Jean Paul Gauthier gown was inspired by none other than Naomi Campbell. Bella told Vogue that she had to pull some strings, but Jean Paul Gauthier created a replica of the white gown Naomi wore on their 2002 haute couture runway in a matter of six days, just for her.

Bella also showed off her own fashion flair by styling herself for the Louis Vuitton Menswear Fall/Winter 2021 show back in 2020. Her blue monogram crop top with matching low-rise pants and an oversized beige coat was an innovative street style look and DIY project in one. “This outfit, I styled myself, and the funny part about it is, that shirt is actually a cummerbund for men. I can’t believe I wore a cummerbund as a shirt,” she says.

When it comes to the runway, Bella gushed over the wedding dress she wore at a Paris Fashion Week Vivienne Westwood show. She looked mesmerizing wearing a sheer lace dress with puffed sleeves and a silk pink corset. She was particularly excited about the dress coming with a complimentary dagger around the waist — so much so that the extravagant ensemble is now on Bella’s wedding wish list. “I always in my heart kind of manifested her making my wedding dress. I hope one day when I get married she can make it,” says Bella. “I don’t know if that would even be a possibility, but if so, it’s me and you Vivienne – dagger included,” she smiles. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for Bella’s special day.
