Bella Hadid Just Brought Back the Olsen Twins’ Favorite ‘00s Bag Trend
It wasn’t a question of “if,” but “when.” Twenty-nineteen was, as 2020 continues to be, a time in which fashion has positively pillaged the nineties and early-aughts for style cues, and nothing (nothing!) is beyond reprise.
Heeled flip-flops and extremely belted outfits have already found their seats at the table, and today, it’s dear friend Slouchy Suede Hobo Bag who joins them, couriered in on Bella Hadid’s trend-christening shoulder.
We should have seen this coming.
On a sidewalk buzzing with Paris Men’s Fashion Week attendees, Bella beamed at fans and faced the paps, dressed head-to-toe like an extra from The Hills or an Olsen triplet (we love). Barely tinted shades. Banana clip. Britney-worthy snake pants. But, naturally, the pièce de résistance was her slouchy, brown, suede hobo bag from brand By Far.
That By Far is behind Bella’s decidedly retro purse doesn’t surprise us. The brand has found its niche with its other massively popular, ultra-throwbacky bags. Most notably, its ‘90s-inspired Rachel bag has become as ubiquitous as the era’s haircut of the same name. And we’re sure YSL’s iconic Mombasa bag was on By Far’s inspiration board when designing Bella’s Mara Suede Shoulder Bag.
Compared to By Far’s rigid patent leather styles, the Mara is markedly more boho. It’s about one tassel away from being slung over a burro and cast in a Clint Eastwood movie. That’s not to say it doesn’t have 2020 markers, though. While aughts hobo bags were cavernous, By Far’s Mara is micro: large enough to fit exactly one bottle of Essentia water and absolutely nothing else.
