Beiersdorf Plans to Buy Clinique La Prairie Real Estate

The transaction, whose financial terms were not divulged, should close later this year.

Beiersdorf is to acquire the more than 247,570-square-foot premises with seven buildings, including the signature La Résidence villa. However, the on-site medical and health clinic are to continue operating under Clinique La Prairie Group.

Clinique La Prairie, which was established in 1931 by Paul Niehans, is where research into cellular therapy used in rejuvenating cosmetics products began for the brand. That became the core of La Prairie’s product formulations.

Beauty brands are increasingly mining their roots to help spring-board into the future.

“La Prairie Group is delighted to be entering a new era of partnership with the Clinique La Prairie Group, global leader in longevity,” Beiersdorf said in a statement on Wednesday.

“Through the acquisition, we strengthen our iconic skin care brand La Prairie by reuniting it with its historic birthplace,” said Patrick Rasquinet, member of Beiersdorf’s executive board. “Clinique La Prairie and La Prairie share a common approach to luxury, longevity and exclusive client experiences, so we are excited about the possibilities that closer collaboration could open up for us.”

Simone Gibertoni, chief executive officer of Clinique La Prairie Group, said through the acquisition, the clinic will reinforce its international development plan. Clinique La Prairie focuses on preventative medicine, and has developed what it calls the “longevity ecosystem,” with health resorts and “longevity hubs.”

La Prairie Group and Clinique La Prairie Group have operated separately, with different brands, since the 1980s.
