The New Bedhead Is Bohemian and Braided, According to This London Runway
Romance turned razor sharp has long defined the Preen by Thornton Bregazzi runway in London, with Victorian influences made current by way of borrowed-from-the-boys silhouettes finished in filmy layers and ample ruffles. And each season, the accompanying beauty looks enhance the occasion to breathtaking effect—think: glitter halos and stained lips courtesy of makeup artist Val Garland, and hair with just the right amount of she’s-come-undone. For today’s Spring 2019 show, hairstylist Eugene Souleiman furthered the mood, creating a lineup of ethereally disheveled tie-backs and tucks defined by a single diminutive banded strand that ran plait-like from the crown.
Guided by some of Spring 2019’s most pervasive themes, including an emphasis on bohemianism and nomadic globe-trotting, Souleiman styled lengths to appear breeze-blown across the forehead in bedheaded and rumpled fashion, pulling one small section and adorning it from root to tip with a crisscross of black string, before pinning the would-be braid behind the ear.
The result was a woman seemingly fresh from the English moors, imbued with the kind of wanderlust that would carry her far beyond the British countryside to far-flung deserts and sweeping mountain landscapes. Forget airfare: Sometimes stepping out of your comfort zone is as simple as an unexpected (and impeccably placed) new beauty note.
