Beauty influencer shows 'amazing' trick to make sheet masks actually fit your face

Sheet masks are a popular way to hydrate the skin, but they’re definitely not one size fits all.

Beauty influencer Annie Wang (@annaytime), who covers Asian beauty and skincare, has a sheet mask hack so simple that people on TikTok are wondering why they never thought of it.

“Most of the time, there’s always something off about how a sheet mask fits but the perfect fit is only a few cuts away!” Wang captioned her recent video, which now has nearly 11,000 views.

Now, her 10-second tutorial is sweeping #BeautyTok

In it, Wang demonstrates how to make small cuts with scissors in three specific spots: At the bridge of the nose, above the lip and on the chin. Though it may not seem like much effort, this sheet mask hack helps customize a standard mask so it doesn’t slip off the face during use.

“That is an amazing life hack,” wrote @errortryagainlater0.

“I should’ve watched this just before putting mine on,” added @xjasminexkraus.

The hack is especially useful for anyone regularly wearing sheet masks, a popular Korean beauty trend. In fact, according to Allure, the practice of wearing sheet masks daily is known in Korea as the “one day, one pack” method. And while that might seem excessive to some, many dermatologists say it has benefits.

“The material of a sheet mask can provide occlusive properties, allowing for better penetration of active ingredients than using a face mask that comes in a tube or pot,” New York City board-certified dermatologist Dr. Carmen Castilla recently told ZocDoc.

But as for using it every day, that depends on the person — and the mask.

“Yes, it’s fine to use a sheet mask every day as long as it’s not a glycolic acid-containing sheet mask,” Elizabeth Tanzi, the founder and director of Capital Laser & Skin Care and an associate clinical professor for the Department of Dermatology at the George Washington University Medical Center, told Allure.

As Tanzi later clarified, using masks with exfoliating acids like glycolic can be too strong for daily use and might irritate the skin. But otherwise, sheet masks can be a safe and relaxing way to leave the skin feeling soft and dewy.
