Beauty Bakerie Has a Comprehensive Plan to Create a More Diverse Beauty Brand

Though it seems obvious that beauty brands should carry shades of base makeup for all skin tones, many brands cater heavily to those with lighter skin tones and only offer a few shades on the deeper end of the spectrum. In the past few years, as it's become obvious that there's a huge market for diverse beauty products and that there's no excuse for not offering a huge range of shades, consumers have been calling out these brands on social media and taking them to task. While it's obviously easier for large brands to expand makeup lines, even smaller, independent brands can create inclusive products, and black-owned brand Beauty Bakerie is an example of exactly how to do that.

According to Yahoo Beauty, Beauty Bakerie has recently launched its Cake Face concealer line in eight different shades, with plans to expand the line. The brand has a comprehensive plan that involves customer input to expand the line, and to do so, it has put up the Beauty Bakerie Summit page. On the page, it says, "Frustrated with inclusion and diversity? Us, too. Concealer launched early because we heard you! Yes, there are only eight shades in our current collection, but we wanted you to have a seat at the table as we grow it! We’re inviting all customers, brand owners, and employees to join us in a conversation about how to improve our collection."

Along with asking for email addresses, there are three different questions on the page: skin tone (dark, medium, deep, or light), a question about what brands miss with concealer, and a final question about foundation brand preference and shade (they list MAC, Nars, and Fenty Beauty, and once you pick a brand you pick your shade from that brand). The idea is that they'll use feedback from the survey to expand their line.

Fans of the brand seem glad to help out, and are commenting things like, "I just gave feedback about future shades on your website. Well done guys! Doing it right!" on Instagram posts. Beauty Bakerie founder Cashmere Nicole clearly wants to give her customers what they want instead of just guessing, and this comprehensive plan toward a more inclusive beauty line is a great start.
