The annual Chelsea Flower Show in London is something of a royal family tradition and Kate Middleton apparently drew on that history when designing this year's exhibit, Back to Nature.

The Duchess of Cambridge prominently featured Princess Diana's favorite flowers - forget-me-nots - in the woodland-inspired display. An Instagram post from Kensington Palace showed the Duchess planting the blue blooms in the rustic garden, a subtle tribute not lost on fans of the royal family.

Since its inception in 1913, the Chelsea Flower Show has become an annual event for members of the royal family. Queen Elizabeth II regularly makes an appearance and Princess Diana had also attended.

Kate Middleton has stopped by the show in recent years, but this time she played an integral part by designing an exhibit with landscape architects Andree Davies and Adam White. The Duchess created a natural, rustic vibe that would inspire "families and kids and communities in general to get outside, enjoy nature, enjoy the outdoors, and really spend quality time together," she said.

Prince William and their three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis stopped by the garden yesterday for a sneak preview before the official opening today. The kids had previously gathered moss, leaves, and twigs, at their own home to help decorate the exhibit. A video and photos released by Kensington Palace show them playing on the rope swing, dangling their bare feet in the stream, and enjoying the space with both their parents.

The Duchess chose a green-and-blue plant scheme for the garden with a "diverse range of plants, shrubs, and trees of different heights and textures," according to a statement - including those gorgeous forget-me-nots.

Meghan Markle has also used forget-me-nots to pay tribute to her mother-in-law. Last week, the blooms appeared as the background for a Mother's Day Instagram post. "Paying tribute to all mothers today - past, present, mothers-to-be, and those lost but forever remembered," the caption read.

Last year, the Duchess of Sussex also carried forget-me-nots in her wedding bouquet in honor of the Princess Diana, the palace confirmed at the time.
