Beautiful fall pies that are peak cozy
Pies are delicious year-round, but they’re especially decadent during the fall and winter seasons. And while they are a traditional treat, pies don’t have to be boring. Thanks to TikTok, the pie-baking stakes have been raised regarding aesthetics, resulting in classic recipes with a striking visual twist. If you’re looking for something that packs a punch when it comes to presentation, here are five pretty pie recipes.

1. Ginger pear quilt pie
This recipe combines the art of baking and quilting into one pie. TikToker @epooleart begins making the filling with chopped pears, chopped candied ginger, brown sugar and flour, among other ingredients. Next, she makes the pie crust “fabric squares” using plain dough and red dough that’s been dyed with beets. After adding the filling, she assembles the crust with the two colors of dough in a traditional quilt pattern.
2. Cranberry pie
Simple things can also be beautiful, such as this gorgeous cranberry pie that will truly light up your holiday table! The recipe involves a beautifully folded pie crust filled with a medley of cranberries, diced oranges, orange zest, sugar, lemon juice and cornstarch. The filling is topped with strips of dough woven into a grid. Then its edges are sealed and decorated with a fork. Top things off with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a lovely, homey finish.
3. Purple ube pie
This pie gets its purple hue from a type of sweet potato known as ube. Begin by mashing diced ube in a bowl. Then add coconut cream, brown sugar, maple syrup, vanilla, allspice, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg and cornstarch before blending. Pour the mixture into a pan lined with pie crust before baking. Garnish with a dollop of whipped cream and some crushed pistachios.
4. Vegan pecan pie
The holidays wouldn’t feel complete without a hearty pecan pie. First, make a vegan pie crust using flour, vegan butter and water. After arranging the pie crust gingerly on the pan, fill with a layer of freshly chopped pecans. Then pour an amber-hued mix of melted vegan butter, corn syrup, flax eggs made from ground flax seeds in water, sugar, cornstarch, vanilla and bourbon over the pecan base before topping with a neat, circular arrangement of pecan halves. The finished pie looks like something out of a woodland fantasy!
5. Vegetable pot pie inspired by Kiki’s Delivery Service
Sometimes, a rich and savory pie really hits the spot when the temperature drops. To make this Kiki’s Delivery Service-inspired recipe, begin by chopping onions, carrots, celery, mushrooms and leeks. Next, cook the vegetables in a pan with vegetable broth. After cooking, pour the veggie mix into a pie crust-lined pan. Then cover it with more dough. Top off the pie with a piece of fish-shaped dough in the center and green olives lining the edges before baking.
