Beastie Boys’ Adam ‘Ad-Rock’ Horovitz Releases Sneakers Benefiting Planned Parenthood
The Beastie Boys hung up their microphones in 2014 following the death of bandmate Adam Yauch, but founding member Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz is still finding creative ways to make powerful statements, with his latest endeavor being a philanthropic sneaker collaboration.
Horovitz has collaborated with Keep, a vegan footwear company that specializes in cruelty-free products and has previously collaborated with musicians such as Animal Collective and Bon Iver.
The rapper’s sneaker of choice is the Keep Ramos, a mid-top sneaker constructed with water-resistant black nylon cordura, a synthetic down collar and a synthetic shearling liner. Accents include magenta embroidery spelling out “Horovitz” across each shoe’s heel, magenta laces and a teal green Keep tag. Meanwhile, a D-ring bungee lace system makes the sneakers easy to slip on and off.
Net proceeds of the Ad-Rock x Keep Roma will be donated to Planned Parenthood, a charity the rapper says he chose “because I support a woman’s right to choose and feel that women should not be punished for making decisions about their own lives and bodies.”
“I collaborated with my friend Una [Kim, founder of] Keep shoes not just because I wanted warm sneaks, but because I support small business. I support women-run business. I support Asian-American-run business,” Horovitz said in a statement.
The Ad-Rock x Keep Roma is priced at $97 and is available for preorder in unisex sizing from keepcompany.com. Orders are estimated to begin shipping in late February.
