The most recent edition of Who Do You Think You Are? on BBC One featured television personality and wilderness expert Bear Grylls.

The 49-year-old explored his family's past in the upcoming episode of series 20, which was shown on BBC One on Thursday, June 15.

Bear discovered more about both of his grandfathers, Ted and Neville, as well as his great-grandfather Lionel, during the one-hour programme. He also uncovered a family connection to Scottish monarchy.

Little known fact about Grylls is that he has been married for over 20 years but who exactly is his wife and how many children do they share? Here’s everything we know.

Who is Shara Cannings Knight?

Shara Cannings Knight, born in 1974, married Grylls in 2000 after only knowing one another for roughly two years.

Knight is an author who has two novels about marriage to her credit. Her second book, Never Stop Holding Hands, was published six years after the publication of her first one, Marriage Matters.

A piece of advice offered to Knight and her husband by an old couple on their wedding day served as the basis for her second book.

Grylls spends her time assisting her spouse in charitable endeavours in addition to writing. Knight supports and plans numerous fund-raising events for various charitable organisations alongside Grylls. One of the organisations she works for inspires young people to overcome the most difficult obstacles in life.

How did she meet Bear Grylls?

Two months before Bear, at 23 years old, became the youngest British climber of Mount Everest on May 16, 1998, Knight and Bear met in Scotland.

The explorer recalled the event to Piers Morgan in a 2014 interview.

When Bear was skinny dipping, the rising tide caught him off guard and swept up his clothes. Knight's first sight of her future husband was watching him racing around the beach naked.

He said: ‘It was freezing on the north coast, and a wave came and took my clothes. I was running around naked, trying to find my trousers.’

He added: ‘It was the worst timing in the world to fall in love because I was up in Scotland. It was the new year, I was training, staying with a friend and climbing everyday.’

How many children do they have?

Bear and Knight share three sons - Jesse, was born in 2003, Marmaduke in 2006, and Huckleberry in 2009.

The family live in a luxury apartment at the redeveloped Battersea Power Station site.
