This Beacon burger joint is expanding. Where you'll find the new Poughkeepsie location

Brain Arnoff, owner of Kitchen Sink Supper Club in Beacon, had customers consistently asking over the years for him to add a burger to their menu, but that wasn't in his vision for the restaurant.

"If this is what people want," he said, "then I want to go out and make a burger joint that's dedicated to making a really, really good hamburger."

The opportunity revealed itself, less than a block away from the supper club, and Arnoff opened the original Meyer's Olde Dutch in Beacon back in 2017. He was able to keep the essence of what he wanted in his original restaurant, while also serving his customers, and doing burgers how he thought they're done best.

Jeff Silverstein, originally from Brooklyn, moved to the Hudson Valley in 2008 with his family, and in 2021 partnered with Arnoff to become co-owners of Meyer's Olde Dutch.

Now the pair are opening a second MOD location in Poughkeepsie, right by Vassar College at 15 Collegeview Ave., and plan to open in early May.

What will MOD's Poughkeepsie location be like?

Arnoff and Silverstein said they're both delighted to be opening their newest venture in the Town of Poughkeepsie, being able to cater to the growing community of both families and college students. Silverstein said they want to be the middle ground between the two, an environment that offers much to both.

Arnoff loves the walkability of the area, similar to Beacon, as well as being adjacent to the college, and centrally located between the city and town of Poughkeepsie. This is also a sort of a homecoming for him — he's from LaGrange and then Hyde Park, but went to Poughkeepsie Day School, about five minutes away from their new location.

Inside the restaurant, they plan to make the atmosphere bright, with a pop of color, and match the feel of their Beacon location. Some people hang out at the bar for a couple hours, while families may be in and out within half an hour, and they hope that continues at MOD Poughkeepsie. With the wide variety of people they can accommodate, there's plenty of opportunity to have different kinds of moments there.

Food and drink at Meyer's Olde Dutch

In terms of the experience, MOD customers order food at the counter and servers bring it out to your table.

Silverstein describes their menu as "modern interpretations of classics."

"I always describe what we do as modern burger joint meets cocktail bar," Arnoff said.

MOD Poughkeepsie will have a full bar, with bartenders trained at their Beacon location providing house and specialty cocktails, mixed drinks, along with local beers on tap and bottled.

Arnoff describes their core item — their hamburgers — as classic and simple, but done excellently.

They source ingredients locally, prepare fresh ingredients every day, cook to order and make everything in-house, "except the ketchup," Silverstein said. It's fast, casual, family-friendly dining.

Both Silverstein and Arnoff agree their hand-breaded crispy chicken sandwich, made with proprietary seasoning blend, pimento cheese, cole slaw, along with bread and butter pickles, is a fan favorite. Their single or Double Dutch burger, with lettuce, tomato, onion and house fry sauce is another popular choice they think Poughkeepsie residents will adore.

They also intend to have chicken tender specials. "We're going to try to service the college students as much as possible with specials," Silverstein said.

There may be more of the MOD brand in the future

"I love to see people's reactions when they come in and they get a good meal," Silverstein said. That's what motivates him to keep moving MOD to new heights.

"We think there's an opportunity for this brand, beyond these two restaurants," he continued.

Arnoff strives to do a modern burger joint better than anyone else.

"I like the idea that we're doing something really classic that people understand and can associate with," he said. "We want to provide something to people that they're not otherwise getting."
