Batiste Dry Shampoo Lawsuit—See if You’re Eligible for Part of $2.5 Million Settlement
The makers of Batiste dry shampoo have agreed to settle a class action lawsuit that claimed its dry shampoo products "contained unsafe levels of benzene," a known carcinogen.
Church & Dwight Co., the owner of the popular hair product, denies any wrongdoing but has agreed to pay out a $2.5 million settlement in the case.
If you purchased one or more Batiste dry shampoo items before May 30, 2023, you may be able to file a claim to participate in the settlement. No proof of purchase is necessary, though those who provide proof may receive more than the maximum amount for those without proof.
The deadline to submit a claim in this settlement is Nov. 15, 2023.
Anyone who purchased a Batiste dry shampoo product and submitted a valid claim will receive a product voucher for $2.00 per product for a maximum of five products claimed (totaling a $10 product voucher). The official statement notes that the payout amounts may increase or decrease depending on the final number of claims.
Consumers who specifically purchased the Batiste Bare™ dry shampoo product are entitled to a cash payment, depending on whether you file proof of purchase with the claim. Those who include receipts will receive a cash payment for the full purchase price of Bare products as many Bare™ Products purchased and identified on the form. Those who purchased Bare™ Products, but do not have proof of purchase, will receive $2.00 for each Bare™ Product purchased, for a maximum of five products claimed ($10 total).
Shoppers that purchased both Batiste dry shampoo and Bare products may be entitled to both a cash payment and product voucher.
