Basset Hound Doesn't Have a Care In the World While Eating Cheerios In Bed

Most dogs who get in trouble put on a “not guilty” face, trying to distract their owners from the disaster behind them. Of course, that never works. You get upset and angry, but you can never stay mad at them, especially when they flash you those adorable puppy-dog eyes. The only time you might get mad is when the dog does nothing to hide what they've done.

TikTok user @jacquiegriffith’s dog was caught red-handed, but he couldn’t have cared less. In fact, he doesn’t even stop when his owner walks in on him eating something that definitely isn’t his. Take a look!

O.M.G. Stop it! This is seriously one of the funniest things we’ve seen in a while. Charlie the Basset Hound was having himself a relaxing morning by eating a bag of cereal for breakfast in bed so how dare this dog mom interrupt him. It’s Charlie's world and we’re all just living in it. LOL! We bet that if she just let him finish, he would've cleaned up every last Cheerio that fell on the ground because, well, Basset Hounds have an incredible sense of smell. Not one little Cheerio would get past him!

Basset Hounds always rank as one of the top dog breeds when it comes to the best sense of smell. Other breeds that have a very strong sense of smell include Bloodhounds, Beagles, German Shepherds, and Labrador Retrievers.

Standing just about 14 inches at the shoulder, Basset Hounds are known for their very large ears. They use their ears to carry scents up from the ground. A fold under their chin, known as the dewlap, will then trap the scent near their nose. They'll use the nearly 220 million smell receptors in their nose to make sense of what they smell. To compare, humans only have about 5 million smell receptors. Wow, talk about impressive for a small, but sturdy breed!
