A new trailer has been released for On the Basis of Sex, the forthcoming film about the life of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, starring Felicity Jones (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) as the groundbreaking Supreme Court Justice.

The film, released to coincide with the 25th anniversary of Ginsburg's appointment to the Supreme Court, follows her early career as an attorney, and her fight for equal rights for women.

"If the law differentiates on the basis of sex, then how will women and men ever be equals?" she asks in the new trailer.

The cast also includes Call Me By Your Name's Armie Hammer as her husband Martin, a tax law expert, Kathy Bates as the lawyer and civil rights campaigner Dorothy Kenyon, and a small cameo from Ginsburg herself.

The film is directed by Mimi Leder (Pay it Forward) to a script by Daniel Stiepleman. Leder has described the movie as “a real-life superhero origin story", telling reporters that Ginsburg's story is “more relevant now than ever".

On the Basis of Sex is out in the US from Christmas Day, and in UK cinemas from January 4, 2019.
