Things look a little dicey for three perfect strangers. Peacock's Based on a True Story follows married couple Ava (Kaley Cuoco) and Nathan Bartlett (Chris Messina) who unhood the Westside Ripper (Tom Bateman) and unexpectedly start a podcast with the serial killer to rake in a serious payday.

That said, the Based on a True Story season 1 finale left more than a few strings untied. For one, the Westside Ripper claimed his latest victim. While covering up the crime, Ava and Nathan were caught red-handed. Viewers also found out that Ava's sister Tory (Liana Liberto) had been harboring a dirty secret of her own.

Many questions remain about what's next, but we investigated all the nitty gritty on whether there is going to be a Based on a True Story season 2.

Is there going to be season 2 of Based on a True Story?

No word just yet. Peacock has not announced any plans to renew or cancel the show, so we're waiting with bated breath. If it's up to the starring trio, though, it's not getting the axe anytime soon.

"If people love it, I would love to keep going," Tom told Entertainment Tonight. Similarly, Chris said, "Certainly I want more of these. We're just gonna wait to see if people like it."

As for Kaley, she's "totally ready to dive in for a season 2." The actress added: "I had the time of my life on this show, with the best people. It couldn't have been more fun."

Are there any clues about Based on a True Story season 2?

At the end of eight episodes, things got downright complicated. As if Matt wasn't inserted enough in Ava and Nathan's life, the season finale revealed his romantic involvement with Ava's sister Tory. And his intentions are likely less pure than they appear.

“I have a few ideas where I would like to see that go,” Tom told Variety. “Does he have an end game? He’s always playing these games of chess with people. Ava and Nathan have a life to lead, but Matt is always thinking about this. I like to think the reason he’s become romantically involved with Tory isn’t just for the romance. He’s got a plan.”

The Death on the Nile star continued: “[Creator] Craig [Rosenberg] really does want this to run for a few seasons, and I think it is something where he didn’t want to spend all of his chips on season one. He wanted to hold something back and have a few firecrackers in his pocket.”

As for the expecting couple, Chris wants a sinister arc for either Nathan or Ava. “I would love for that to be Nathan, but maybe it will be a bit of us both,” he told Variety in the same interview. “I wouldn’t mind it getting darker and more twisted from here. I could see them as a screwed-up version of Bonnie and Clyde."
