Barbie ‘expert’ reveals all the fun Easter eggs she spotted in the new movie trailer, and TikTok is obsessed

There’s been a lot of hype surrounding the upcoming Barbie movie, which is set to premiere in theaters on July 21. But aside from all the fun memes it’s spawned so far, one TikToker claims that the new Barbie trailer is also peppered with a lot of hidden references you might have missed.

TikTok user Bobbi (@theafternoonspecial) describes herself as something of a Barbie aficionado. (Or, in her words, “your friend who knows just a little too much about Barbie.”) And based on her recent dissection of the new trailer, that certainly seems accurate.

In her three-minute-long viral clip, Bobbi takes viewers back through the latest trailer to point out several references, symbols and cute details the filmmakers included, starting with an aerial view of Barbieland, which is spelled out with the typeface used in the original Barbie logo.

Bobbi also pauses to point out the now-viral shot of Barbie’s feet stepping out of her heels while still maintaining that iconic Barbie arch.

“I don’t know about you, but this was singlehandedly the moment I knew we were in good hands with this movie,” the TikToker confesses.

Many of the other details Bobbi discusses were found in the background shots — like the pink Barbie-inspired Statue of Liberty seen off in the distance in a beach scene and a massive sign featuring a Barbie with butterfly wings. (Apparently, the latter is in reference to the 2011 movie Barbie: A Fairy Secret, Bobbi says.)

There’s also the sign for “BAX” Airport, which is meant to emulate LAX in Los Angeles, Calif., and a shot of Barbie wearing a costume that seems to be inspired by the nostalgic Golden Dream Barbie. Several Warner Bros. Pictures references are also planted throughout the clips, which makes sense, as the movie is being distributed by the iconic film studio.

Bobbi even raises an interesting theory about the plot, which she admits might be a bit of a stretch. In one scene, she thinks there might be a reference to the Four Horsemen — or, in this case, the Four HorseKEN.

Bobbi’s Easter egg video has already gained over 2.5 million views, with many fellow Barbie fans chiming in in the comments.

“I love how they’re blending all of the different eras of Barbie,” one user said.

“The set designers ate and left no crumbs!” added someone else.

A lot of people couldn’t get over the trailer’s heavy nostalgia, which reminded them of their childhoods.

“I had the EXACT roller blades Ken held up at the end of the trailer and I’m hoping they make sparks just like the toy,” one person shared.

“all the back drops look like the art in box or on a play set,” said another. “im in love.”

A few people shared some theories of their own, too — like when it came to The Wizard of Oz playing in the background of one shot in front of a movie theater.

The Wizard of Oz being the movie playing is totally foreshadowing Barbie leaving Barbieland and going to the real world omg,” one person theorized.

Wizard of Oz was also a special Barbie release with a yellow brick road background to play with!” another pointed out.

And then there were those who simply thanked Bobbi for taking the time to dig up all these fun clues, which only made them even more psyched to see the movie this summer.

“watching this on repeat to remember everything,” one person commented.
