Barbara Palvin Explains Why She Was Barefoot at the Venice Film Festival: 'I Didn't Want to Fall' (Exclusive)

The supermodel also breaks down her buzzy look at the 'Poor Things' premiere

For Barbara Palvin, comfort is key!

When the supermodel arrived barefoot to the premiere of Poor Things during the Venice International Film Festival, she sent the internet into a frenzy.

While chatting with PEOPLE about her partnership with Bumble and bumble — the haircare brand she collaborated with for the event, and with for her Hungarian wedding in July — Palvin explained the relatable reason behind the shoeless shots snapped of her that day.

"You have to get off moving boats and I didn't want to fall in the water in my beautiful gown. And I love high heels but they can get uncomfortable — so I just took them off," she admits to PEOPLE exclusively.

It was a cool fashion move for Palvin, who's attended the Film Festival in the past and is familiar with the canal commute to the island of Lido where the event annually takes place.

For her return to the star-studded event, Palvin wore Giorgio Armani gown with a thigh-high slit and asymmetrical detail and piled her honey-hued hair atop her head in a voluminous updo.

"I have to give credit for Owen Gould," Palvin says of her "go-to" hairstylist, who created the gorgeous hairdo. "I always say he doesn't do hair, he creates art."

Palvin adds that she "never" wants to do the "same hair and makeup," even if she has events lined up all week. "We always give him two, two and a half hours for hair so we can brainstorm together," Palvin says of her and Gould's preparation process, which always includes using Bumble and bumble.

Ultimately, the creative duo decided on a Brigitte Bardot-inspired hairdo for her black Venice number. She kept her jewelry minimal and makeup simple with a slick of berry shade on her lips.

As for the dress Palvin was sure to protect when stepping off the boat during her arrival? She shares she'd picked the design out "months and months in advance."

Fortunately for Palvin, she has stylist Marc Eram "who always helps" her get ready. "He brings me a bunch of options," she says. "He knows my style really well now."

"When it's Venice, we talk a lot about what we want to do," Palvin explains. We go through Armani's archives, outfits and everything. Every look I do, I always want to look a little different — or very different."

Although deciding on the perfect outfit can take time, Palvin says it's a feeling she gets when she knows the dress is the one.

"I was trying a lot of things and it would be, 'No no, no, no, no,'" she begins to explain. "And then I put on a dress and I'm like, 'Ooh, this is it.'"

"It's always very obvious which one holds my name," she adds.
