Former first lady Barbara Bush has passed away at the age of 92, leaving behind her husband, former President George H.W. Bush, the 41st U.S. president. Spanning 73 years, their love story is filled with sweet and memorable moments.

They’ve stood by each other’s side since they wed in 1945, and are the parents of five children, including George W. Bush, the 43rd president, and Jeb Bush, the 43rd governor of Florida. The couple also has 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Barbara was the second lady of the United States from 1981 to 1989, and the first lady from 1989 to 1993. According to the Houston Chronicle, Barbara and George hold the record for the longest presidential marriage in U.S. history, surpassing John and Abigail Adams’ 54-year marriage. “I am still old and still in love with the man I married 72 years ago,” she recently told Smith College alumnae magazine.

Here, a reflection on the couple’s love story and some of the adorable moments they’ve shared through their 73 years together.
