Barack Obama Is Reportedly Headed to an Island to Write White House Memoir

Barack Obama is beach-bound once more—this time with plans to work on his upcoming book on the island of Tetiaroa—once owned by Marlon Brando—in the South Pacific, reports The Washington Post.
Last month, Obama and his wife, Michelle Obama, signed what the Financial Times reported to be a $65 million book deal for their separate books with Simon & Schuster. The deal followed what the newspaper reported was a record-breaking auction among publishers.

Following his time in the White House, Obama has gotten in a significant amount of beach time. He has traveled to Palm Springs, the Caribbean, and Hawaii in the weeks following Donald Trump’s inauguration. The former president even went kite-surfing in the British Virgin Islands with Richard Branson.
Though Obama reportedly plans to write his memoir on an island in the sun, Michelle Obama will stay in Washington, D.C., while she pens her own book. The Obamas, who made the choice to remain in the area while their younger daughter Sasha finishes high school, are renting a home in the neighborhood of Kalorama.
“She’s got one daughter to get off to college, another is a [sophomore] in high school. All of that comes first,” Tina Tchen, Obama’s White House chief of staff, told the Post. “Now she will also be working on the book and still keeping up her engagement with the community as she always has.”
