Banff's 'Big 3' Ski Resorts Welcome Snow And Announce Opening Days

Banff, Alberta's "Big 3" resorts -- Mt. Norquay, Lake Louise, and Sunshine Village -- welcomed fresh snowfall yesterday, alongside sharing an Instagram post that announced each ski resort's opening day.

Planned opening dates at the Big 3 resorts:

Lake Lake Louise: November 10th

Mt. Norquay: November 3rd

Sunshine Village: November 9th

That feels awfully soon, doesn't it? Mt. Norquay, should this opening date hold -- weather is finicky, after all -- will start spinning the lifts in 9 days.

I probably won't be riding the lifts until December, but the prospect of a major North American resort opening so soon has me stoked.

And the recent storm's arrival wasn't just a kick in the pants for Alberta's upcoming ski season -- it also produced majestic views:

It's true -- Banff, Alberta, is one of the most majestic places out there. It doesn't hurt that the skiing rocks, too. My last journey to the Canadian resort town took place in the spring, but after the news of this recent storm, I'm itching to go back.

Currently, Lake Louise and Sunshine Village have roughly a foot of snow, with Mt. Norquay rocking about 8 inches. Each resort's webcam offerings a snowy head-to-toe coating -- it really isn't long now.
