Balenciaga Unveils Its New Sock Sneaker Silhouette for Fall 2024
Balenciaga gave fans a closer look at its new sock sneaker from its fall 2024 collection on Instagram today.
The sock-inspired footwear comes in neutral black and white colorways and is crafted of a technical knit. Additionally, the footwear is exceedingly lightweight and embossed with Balenciaga’s logo at the back of the sole, offering the sneaker a graphic touch. The style travels up the ankle, creating a slouchy sock-like effect. No official release date has been set for the launch of the sock-inspired sneakers.

The brand’s ever-popular Speed Trainer, Balenciaga’s first sock sneaker, debuted in 2016 and birthed from the mind of Demna Gvasalia Balenciaga’s current creative director. The Speed Trainers were affectionately likened to socks, thanks to the footwear’s resemblance to the woolen accessory. The unique silhouette has also drawn comparisons to scuba shoes.
Following its release, the Speed Trainer gained popularity in 2017, being worn by high-profile stars including Gucci Mane, Bryson Tiller and Future. Even the Kardashian-Jenner family got in on all the Speed Trainer fun, shooting the silhouette into the fashion stratosphere. Balenciaga’s new sneaker silhouette is likely paying homage to the comparison given to its Speed Trainer predecessor.
From there, Balenciaga has continued to shell out a variety of controversial footwear styles, including their “Paris” line of sneakers made to look dirty and worn. The luxury fashion house also offers a wide range of oddly shaped ankle booties, wooden clogs, rubber slippers, ultra-chunky sneakers and even Crocs-inspired heels.
Balenciaga’s runway show set in Los Angeles featured collaborative merchandise with Erewhon and fine jewelry brand Jacob & Co., as well as a runway appearance by Cardi B. Notable attendees included Nicole Kidman, Kim Kardashian and Eva Longoria, among others.
