Bald Eagle Couple Who Went Viral Building a Nest Welcome Their First Chick
At the right times, the chick can be seen on the live cam.
So many congratulations to American bald eagle couple Bella and Smitty who welcomed their first eaglet Sunday afternoon. You may know this couple after they went viral for rebuilding their nest together in West Virginia.
The eagle family is available to watch live through the Outdoor Channel's NCTC EagleCam. You can watch the live cam of the couple below and even get a glimpse of the eaglet at certain times!
From the Beaumont Enterprise, The chick was revealed from under its parent around 2:14 p.m. to watchers of a livestream called EagleCam managed by the National Conservation Training Center in partnership with the United States Fish and Wildlife Service and Outdoor Channel. The second egg remains unhatched.
The nest is about 90 feet off the ground at the top of a sycamore tree at the National Conservation Training Center near Shepherdstown, West Virginia, in the eastern panhandle of the state, according to Randy Robinson, who coordinates the EagleCam updates for the NCTC.
Incubation time is about 35 to 38 days for an eagle's egg, so the second egg will reach 40 days old this week and will probably not hatch.
Bald eagles were listed as an endangered species in 1978. On June 28, 2007, the bald eagle was removed from the list of threatened and endangered species.
We could, and probably will, watch this eagle cam all day! It's just fascinating!
