New Balance Dropped a Super-Wearable Version of the 57/40

New Balance’s 57/40 sneaker is not even a year old, which makes all the colorways of the shoe that drop extra fun. There’s the the original black finish with bright primary colors that dropped in January, a red and white pair inspired by a baseball movie and an all-gray pair reminiscent of the thicker New Balance 990. But on Oct. 16, the options got even more special (and easy to wear) with a new look blending white, off-white and a hit of sea salt blue on the back. The sneaker is available to buy now on Newbalance.com for $120.

The 57/40 sneaker launched as a remake of the brand’s classic 574 model, which originally debuted in the ‘80s. Noted as New Balance’s initial real crossover into lifestyle shoes, the 574 has a little less tech for actual fitness and a little more attention to style details. The 57/40 keeps that original intent, but has some special detailing of its own.

In addition to the versatile hue palette, New Balance modified textures on the upper of this style. (In fact, every version of the 57/40 that’s been released so far has offered new ways to present the classic mesh, suede and leather materials atop the shoe’s upper.) The suede accents of the latest 57/40 colorway now appear deconstructed, with hints of excess material included for an eye-catching yet laidback touch.

The silhouette also has two stacked midsoles, which gives it a wavy look when those soles are monochromatic and an even bolder look when they’re two-toned. And in true New Balance fashion, the model offers a comfortable fit to keep feet happy throughout the day.

All in all, this off-white version seems like it’ll remain a favorite.
