New Balance Is Bringing Back Its 1000 Sneaker in Silver Following Joe Freshgoods Collaboration

Following a two sneaker collaboration celebrating the aughts from Joe Freshgoods, New Balance is bringing back its 1000 model with its first in-house colorway since its original run.

While reflective silver detailing has been a common feature among 2000s running shoes from just about every brand, the New Balance 1000 “Silver” sees its namesake color dominate the bulk of its upper through synthetic overlays. Black mesh then forms the mesh underlays and inner portion of the “N” logo, while the marks outline matches in the outsole in off-white.

On the tech front, the 1000 features a segment sole unit with Abzord cushioning at the heel and forefoot and a Stability shank bridging the midfoot. An internal foam heel panel also provides added comfort.

British rapper Dave, who’s been announced as a new brand ambassador for New Balance, stars in the campaign for the 1000’s revival. The 25-year-old was born just a year before the model made its debut in 1999. Although the shoe didn’t make much of an impression the first time around and was eventually shelved, it looks poised for a bigger moment today as Y2K aesthetics have been fetishized and New Balance has a new grip on the sneaker community. Tapping Joe Freshgoods, one of the most in-demand sneaker collaborators today, to reintroduce the model doesn’t help either.

The New Balance 1000 “Silver” will release April 24 through the brand’s website and select third-party retailers. Pricing is set at $150.
