Badgley Mischka RTW Fall 2021

Like many designers, Badgley Mischka reflected on the past to drive their brand forward, musing on the nightlife of New York 40 years ago and updating that sartorial template for today.

The look: A more forgiving looser silhouette leads the way. The duo call it luxe lounge, but still full of the glamour and luscious fabrications the brand is known for.

Quote of note: “We’re very much excited about what’s to come in the fall,” James Mischka said. “This will ship when the world will be back to some type of normalcy, that is our hope,” Mark Badgley explained.

Standout pieces: A gold lamé boxy blouse with tie neck and matching full pant; jacquard suiting; a printed wrap dress; tons of faux fur outerwear; a 1950s-style column gown with bow trims; a gray men’s wear windowpane plaid trench.

Takeaway: Incorporating touches of sportswear — like stretch fabrics as opposed to corsets — is a modern way to get customers to take up “dressing up” again after a year in elastic waistbands and cozy tops. “Right now, our lady doesn’t want anything with a zipper,” Badgley joked. “There is a simplicity to it.”
