What The Bachelorette Star Jillian Harris Eats In A Day

From Delish

If you put a platter of muffins and a plate of toast slathered in marmite in front of Jillian Harris, she'd choose the salty, yeast-based spread pretty much every time.

"I don't really crave pastries," says the star of HGTV's Love It Or List It Vancouver. "I love salty and spicy foods more, but I really try to eat healthy."

Eating healthy more important to Harris than ever-she's expecting her first child later this year, which has made her extra-conscious of what she eats. During a break while hosting a spring-cleaning party with Mr. Clean, the interior designer explains how her diet's changed over the past few months, her No. 1 rule for eating clean, and the three foods that fueled her throughout her time on the Bachelorette (yes, we went there).

She's Cut Down on Meat.

Two months before learning she was pregnant, Harris decided to go "somewhat vegetarian," which she's kept up ever since. That means eating a lot of fruit and vegetables-she's big on citrus and avocados, particularly avocado toast-but also, if she's in the mood, the occasional burger.

"I try not to cut out anything entirely, and just know when my body can handle something a little heavier," she says. "I'll think, 'I had a burger yesterday, so I won't have one today.'"

She's made some swaps to make her go-to recipes meatless, like creating spaghetti bolognese-her "favorite thing in the world"-with ground tofu instead of pork.

She Asks This Question Before Eating.

One easy way Harris keeps from overindulging is following a lesson her cousin, dietician Tori Wesszer, teaches her son. "I ask myself, 'Is this an every day food or a sometimes food?'" Harris says. "It's a simple question, but it's a good reminder that can work for everyone, not just kids."

Two Drinks Helped Her Get Through 'The Bachelorette.'

While most TV show sets feature lavish craft services tables overflowing with food, The Bachelorette was more of a "fend for yourself" environment, Harris says.

"It's like they purposefully starved you just to make sure you go crazy at the end," she jokes.

Throughout filming, she basically lived off of coffee, vodka and Amy's bean and cheese burritos.

"I'd grab one, and put some cilantro, salsa and guacamole on it. That, to me, was like heaven," Harris says.

She's Really Into Certain Canadian Foods.

Harris has her own trailer on the set of Love It Or List It Vancouver, so she makes her own breakfast most mornings. Often, that means avocado toast, scrambled eggs with avocado, or a personal favorite, toast with Marmite, a savory, dark brown paste that's similar to Vegemite.

"I eat a lot of it on set," she says.

Her ultimate guilty pleasure snacks are a little more indulgent: Burritos, spaghetti and hickory sticks.

"Hickory sticks are a Canadian thing; they're like potato chips with ten times the fat," she says.

That may be a "sometimes" food-as in, we'll have to try it sometime soon.
