‘The Bachelorette’ Season 15, Episode 3: Sun’s Out Buns Out

Last week on The Bachelorette, Hannah Brown and her suitors had a series of very normal (ie: “bold”) dates like a group Speedo competition, something called “mudding” and a disastrous game of Roller Derby. Luke P. professed he’s “falling in love” with Hannah after spending about two hours with her, and Cam crashed a group date. Alas it was Connor J., Daron and Matthew who were sent home.

In episode three, we open on Chris Harrison essentially reminding the guys of the show’s premise (that Hannah felt emotional because she had to send some guys home and that the guys have limited time with her). With that refresher out of the way, they move on to the group date invite.

The guys receive a note asking Jonathan, Matteo, John Paul Jones, Tyler C., Jed, Kevin, Mike and Cam to push their “love to the limit.” One might assume she’s talking about skydiving or something. Instead, the group walks into a hospital room to see Jason Biggs of American Pie fame and his wife, Jenny Mollen, delivering a fake baby (yeah, I don’t know). The explanation? Hannah wants a family one day.

Then, they head to a classroom to test their knowledge of the female reproductive system (sexy?) and learn how to hold babies. The date wouldn’t be complete without a labor simulator and Hannah clamping clothespins on the men’s nipples to imitate the pain of breastfeeding.

Afterward, the group winds down with a cocktail party. Jed steals Hannah away for a rooftop make-out sesh and asks her to make a wish using a chicken nugget. Mike is up next and he opens up about his girlfriend having a miscarriage in her second trimester. The baby activities of the day reminded him of that pain, and he says he hopes it made him a better man.

Sensing an emotional moment, Cam interrupts and pops his head in three times to say he’s ready to talk to Hannah whenever they’re wrapped up (passive-aggressive much?). He insists he has something important to tell Hannah and will not take a hint. Mike handles it smoothly, but he’s annoyed.

For some reason, Hannah ends up apologizing to Cam for making him wait. What was so important that he had to tell Hannah immediately? That he resigned from his job to come on the Bachelorette (doesn’t everyone?). Giving him a taste of his own medicine, Jonathan interrupts Hannah and Cam immediately. Cam responds by begging for two more minutes, then glares at Jonathan for a long time. Tyler C. follows that debacle by telling Hannah he wants to be her arm candy. The date rose goes to Mike and—surprise, surprise—Cam handles it with zero finesse.

Side note: Hannah casually informs us in a confessional that Tyler G. had to go home. No explanation is given, and we see zero footage from his departure, so who knows what happens there.

Back at the mansion, Connor gets the one-on-one date rose and he’s stoked…until Hannah cancels the date because she isn’t feeling well. On the plus side, she invites him to hang out with her in her hotel suite. She tells him she passed out when she woke up and was taken to the hospital to get some fluids. Otherwise she’s fine and it allows Connor to show her how well he can take care of her. He leaves her a series of Post-It notes and a cute letter.

He returns to the mansion and fills the guys in on his date, and Luke P. really takes it hard. He also asks some pretty weird questions about what Hannah was wearing. Then, a man enters and tells Connor his date with Hannah isn’t over and that he better get dressed ASAP. He meets Hannah for a romantic private concert and she gives him a rose.

The next day, Dylan, Peter, Garrett, Grant, Luke P., Luke S., Joey and Devin are paired with pets for a quirky photo shoot. While the guys get glammed up, Cami from last season sits with Hannah in a surveillance room so they can see everything the guys say behind the scene. So what do they learn? Luke P. is very proud he does CrossFit for a living. Through the course of the date, Hannah watches the guys get loose with their animal friends and gets super turned off by Luke P.’s attitude.

So, at the cocktail party later, she confronts him and tells him his lack of respect for her other relationships is bothering her. If he doesn’t change, then he’s going home. The guys ask Luke what’s wrong afterward, and he says Hannah is frustrated with how he’s acting. Instead of taking what she said to heart, he interrupts her conversation with Devin. She tells him she’ll talk to him later, so he decides to get mad at the other guys waiting to talk to her. It’s pretty embarrassing—even more so when he insinuates his ego is so bruised that he might just go home all together.

Amidst the Luke P. drama, Peter sweeps Hannah off her feet with a story about how his mom was a pageant queen (Miss Illinois) and his dad was a pilot just like him. They have a steamy Dirty Dancing–esque make-out session. (*Sniff, sniff* is that a frontrunner we smell?) After, she returns to the large group of guys to give out the rose but before she does, she pulls Luke P. aside and tells him that he needs to get it together. Then, she gives Peter the rose.

The next day, the dudes get geared up for a cocktail party. But instead, Hannah decides to host a tailgate. The guys get so excited that they beat on one another’s chest. Cam feels insecure about his connection with Hannah so he tells the guys he has “something very, very personal” he needs to tell Hannah and she might send him home over it. He asks the guys to let him have ample time with her tonight. Mike calls BS and the whole thing is cringe-worthy.

At the tailgate, Cam pulls Hannah aside almost immediately and lays it on thick. He tells her he nearly had to have his leg amputated, then his grandma died and then he had to re-home two puppies he had just adopted…It’s not really clear why he thinks all of this needs to be revealed just then and he ends up coming off as super self-involved.

Of course, Mike can’t help but tell Hannah that Cam was swinging for a “pity rose.” She’s rightfully infuriated and decides to pull Cam aside and call him out. He’s appalled and says, “I would never compromise the integrity of what I’ve been through for a pity rose.” He even went as far as to write the other guys letters in case he went home. Hannah says it feels very “schemey and slimy” and tells him she needs to think about if they can move forward.

Regardless, Hannah says a suns-out-buns-out kind of day was “just what mama needed,” and that any roses she hands out won’t be “pity roses.”

At the rose ceremony that night, Jed, Tyler, Dustin, Dylan, Grant, Luke P. (WHAT?!), Garrett, Peter, John Paul Jones, Matteo, Devin, Luke S. and Kevin learn they’re still in the running. Drama queen Cam heads home (thankfully) and so does sweet Jonathan and Joey. Cam cries because he’s so bummed that people are questioning his integrity. Ha.

Next week, Mike and Luke P. face off, someone gets carted off in an ambulance and Hannah gets some great kisses (and cries a fair amount). Suffice it to say, there’s a lot going on and we can’t wait to see what other insanity transpires when Bachelorette returns with episode four Monday, June 3, at 8 p.m. PT/ET.
