Bachelorette Becca Kufrin: “At the End of the Day, I Think I’m Winning”
Becca Kufrin is ready to close that chapter. After Bachelor Arie Luyendyk Jr. rescinded his proposal in favor of finalist Lauren Burnham, Kufrin has faced an influx of emotions ranging from disbelief to humiliation, and now, to gratitude.
The newest Bachelorette, who’s currently filming her upcoming season with her dozens of suitors, opened up about where she stands emotionally—and whether she’s grappling with lingering feelings for her former fiance. “I wish him and Lauren the best,” Kufrin told E! News this week. “Watching their relationship unfold it made much more sense. I’m just ready to move on and be done with that and sayonara to them.”
In fact, she sees the entire fiasco as a blessing. “At the end of the day, I think I’m winning!” she noted.
Luyendyk and his fiancee Burnham are currently traveling through Europe. In subsequent interviews, the race car driver claimed that he was the one to set Kufrin up to be the next Bachelorette. Longtime show host Chris Harrison questioned the validity of that particular statement in a separate interview.
“That’s a decision that the Bachelors are never involved in,” he said, “so unless he was just being incredibly creative and thinking as a producer and trying to produce the show as well as break up with a girl and make the switch, which, if he did, I am incredibly impressed.”
This week, Kufrin also revealed her take on Luyendyk’s claim. “Well, that’s news to me!” she expressed to Entertainment Tonight. “I don’t think he ever expected me to be [the Bachelorette], or how everything played out, so that’s his side. I don’t know.”
Ultimately, she’s ready to move forward and find love. “After meeting the guys coming out of the limo that first night, it just put me at ease,” she concluded to E! of her contestants. “And it just makes me so excited to start this!”
The Bachelorette premieres Monday, May 28, 2018, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
