‘Bachelor’ Alum Bekah Martinez Gets Refreshingly Candid About How Her Pregnancy Changed Her Relationship

So much of what we see (and post) on social media is an idealized version of the truth, which is why it’s refreshing (and, honestly, reassuring) when anyone, but particularly someone in the public eye, decides to drop the facade and get real. Bachelor alum Bekah Martinez did just that in an Instagram post on March 28, which detailed the reality of her “unplanned pregnancy” and the effect it had on her then-very-new relationship with boyfriend Grayston Leonard.

“This man is wonderful. And handsome. And a great dad,” Martinez captioned a photo of herself and Leonard. “I love him so much, but there’s so much you don’t see that goes on behind the Instagram scenes. I think it’s easy to look at our photos together and think we transitioned seamlessly into a life with each other, and that couldn’t be further from the truth.”

She went on to discuss some of the challenges they faced when she first learned she was pregnant with their daughter, Ruth Ray De La Luz Leonard. “Getting unexpectedly pregnant only three months into a relationship isn’t all fun and games,” she wrote. “Actually, it’s mostly tears and arguments (or at least that was our experience).”

Martinez stressed that she’s “never been happier” and couldn’t think of a better person to be her partner and the father of her child, but she also admitted that “dealing with the stress of an unplanned pregnancy with someone you barely know is ROUGH.” And because she and Leonard had to figure out so much so early, they “skipped past the whole dating phase and haven’t had much time to talk about things that aren’t baby-related.” In some ways, they’re still getting to know each other and learning how to be good partners and parents.

To that end, they’re starting therapy together and looking forward to the future. “This post is just meant to be a reminder that everyone has issues,” Martinez explained. “Nothing is as perfect as perceived, and ALL relationships have struggles.”

Former Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay was one of many people to respond in the comments. “Love the realness of this post on a platform that allows people to be everything but!” she wrote.

Chelsea Roy, who appeared on The Bachelor with Martinez, shared a similar sentiment, writing, “Yes! I love this message and truth. As always, sending you both my love and support… kiss the little beauty for me!”
