Baby Yoda Drinking Soup Is the Internet's New Favorite Meme

If you’ve been on the internet at all in the past few weeks, you've likely heard of Baby Yoda.

The cute and lovable creature made his debut earlier this month in Disney+’s new Star Wars series, The Mandalorian, and it’s safe to say he was an immediate hit. Formally referred to as “The Child,” Baby Yoda — who isn’t exactly a baby in the traditional sense (he’s 50 years old), nor is he the Yoda from the classic films — quickly became both an enigma and pop culture icon. And now, thanks to episode four of The Mandalorian, Baby Yoda has become the star of the internet’s new favorite meme.

At one point in the episode, the camera closes in on Baby Yoda sipping a cup of soup — much like the infamous Kermit-tea-sipping meme of the past. Fans were quick to add their own captions on Twitter, with many likening the creature to typical “Mom” moments. (“Every mom on Christmas morning watching you open presents,” was an especially popular edition.)

For the record, it’s not just the fans who have fallen in love with Baby Yoda — members of The Mandalorian creative team are just as enamored with the creature. Deborah Chow, who directed episode three of the series, told Vanity Fair that the overall love for Baby Yoda was palpable on the set. “You have everybody…getting moved by it,” she said. “Every time we brought [the puppet] on set, people would be melting.”
